Description
Use Alkalinity Increaser to raise the Alkalinity (TA) of swimming pool and spa water to read between 80 – 120 ppm.
The Alkalinity should be correctly maintained to prevent wide swings of pH, ensuring bather comfort and the protection of the pool / spa and it’s equipment.
If you thought pH was important, you were right. But, Total Alkalinity is even more important.
The total alkalinity is the buffer of pH, if it is not balanced correctly, the pH will not give you a correct reading. Total alkalinity is the ability to control pH.
Here is a simple way to understand the difference between pH and total alkalinity:
Think of the pH as the thermometer on your furnace’s thermostat. The thermometer measures the exact room temperature. If it’s a little cooler than you like, you turn the thermostat up. You have just displayed the ability to control the temperature. Total alkalinity is like the thermostat, in that it gives you the ability to control pH. This is why you test and adjust the total alkalinity before even touching your pH test kit.
Your goal? To keep total alkalinity readings inside the acceptable range of 80 to 120 PPM. If you suspect your pH level to be a little high, then try for a higher reading of 150 PPM when testing the total alkalinity.
Why? Because pH-lowering chemicals will lower the total alkalinity as well. If your total alkalinity reading is below 80 PPM, then you will use TA Increaser, If you got a reading above 120 PPM, then pH Reducer is what you will use. Again, to achieve these readings you will need a test kit or test strips.
Chemical Name:Â Granular Sodium Bicarbonate
Application: Ideally the TA level of your water should be maintained between 80 – 120ppm at all times. Upon testing to see where your level is at, If your TA needs increasing, Slowly pour the solution into the water, close to the return inlets. After 24 hours re-check the pH and repeat the treatment dose as necessary.
Do not try to achieve the recommended level in one treatment, instead add the increaser at the dosage rate until the desired level is achieved.
Dose Rates:Â We recommend for most hot tub of up to 1200ltrs, add 1-2 capfuls and repeat as required.
– Always allow 4-5 hours between testing and re-dosing the spa to accurate Test Results.
TIP:Â Regular pH increaser will both increase your waters pH as well as your total alkalinity so it should not be used regularly. When your alkalinity levels are too low it can cause; green water, burning eyes, itchy skin, corrosion of metal parts and pH bounce. Adjusting your total alkalinity using this product will help rectify these effects.Â
